After a 44-year career in the finance industry, Charles (Charlie) Capito retired as Managing Director of the Wells Fargo Advisors Complex in West Virginia. While at Wells Fargo, Capito was responsible for managing seven offices and deploying the firm’s broader strategy across the statewide partnerships and recruiting talent, while creating an inclusive environment where teamwork and innovation produced strong business results.
A graduate of Hampden Sydney College, Capito launched his career as a Financial Consultant with Smith-Barney in 1976. He steadily rose through the ranks to become a business and community leader in West Virginia recognized for his financial and business expertise.
Capito’s previous experience as Executive Vice President and Director of Business Development at United Bank provided him with a broad mandate to serve as a senior leader assisting with the implementation of sales initiatives and other private wealth management strategies. While at United Bank, Capito served as a board member of United Brokerage Services.
In addition to his career work in West Virginia, Charlie also served in various leadership roles with Citigroup Smith Barney in New York City as well as the Legg Mason Division of Smith Barney in Washington, D.C. He is highly credentialed as a finance executive and financial advisor and has overseen the management of billions of dollars in assets throughout his career.
Capito lives primarily in Charleston with his wife Shelley. Together they have three children and eight grandchildren.
