Eric Gertler has held leadership roles in the private, public, and philanthropic sectors.  

He currently serves as Executive Chairman and CEO of U.S. News & World Report, the nation’s leading authority on rankings and expert guidance on life decisions, where he holds overall responsibility for editorial and business operations.

Prior to his current role, Eric served in New York City and New York State government as Commissioner/President and CEO-designate of Empire State Development (ESD), the state’s principal economic development agency. During the Covid-19 pandemic. His tenure at ESD was characterized by four main priorities: meeting the unprecedented economic needs arising from the Covid-19 pandemic; completing critical infrastructure projects including Moynihan Train Hall and the Javits Center expansion; attracting companies to the State and expanding job growth; and implementing longer term economic initiatives. Eric also served in multiple mayoral administrations.  

Eric is a trustee to the Zuckerman Family Foundation, which focuses on philanthropic efforts in science, leadership and Israel. He is a trustee of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a board member of several universities including the Harvard Kennedy School, Tel Aviv University, Technion, Hebrew University, and the Weizmann Institute. He is Chairman of the American-Israel Friendship League, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a member of Young Presidents Organization. 

Eric has written and spoken extensively on key policy issues and economic development priorities, including workforce and employment matters, infrastructure investment, urban development, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
