Major Garrett is CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent, a role he’s held since 2018. He reports across all CBS platforms and hosts THE TAKEOUT, a nightly politics and culture show. He also hosted AGENT OF BETRAYAL, a podcast on FBI spy Robert Hanssen. From 2012 through 2018, Garrett was CBS’s chief White House correspondent, covering major global and domestic issues during the Obama administration.
He also reported extensively on the Trump campaign and administration, breaking key cabinet appointments. Before CBS, Garrett was chief White House correspondent for Fox News, CNN, and National Journal, and previously reported for U.S. News & World Report and several newspapers. He’s authored five books, including Mr. Trump’s Wild Ride and The Big Truth. Garrett holds degrees in journalism and political science from the University of Missouri and lives in Washington, D.C.
